Restoring Scout Hall

WE DID IT!

From planning, execution, and completion, and at a cost of more than $1 million, the total restoration of Scout Hall was completed in the spring of 2018.  It would not have been possible without the support of our community, and we thank you.

Like any other 100-year-old, Scout Hall had been showing its age and was in urgent need for:

  • Structural and dry rot repairs
  • Seismic upgrades
  • A new mechanical system
  • A new roof (donated by McLaren Roofing)
  • A fire sprinkler system throughout the entire building.
  • ADA compliant restrooms and front entry

Beyond these required repairs, the restoration included:

  • A new commercial kitchen was provided at below cost by TriMark Federighi
  • The false ceiling in the main room was eliminated, allowing natural light to enter the main room through a new retractable skylight.
  • A new security system (donated by Redwood Security) was installed
  • New hardwood flooring was installed throughout, with labor donated by Victorian Hardwood Floors
  • The new bathrooms were beautifully tiled by London Tile, with much donated time and material

 Benefits of the restoration:

In addition to accommodating the growing number of youth groups requesting use of our facility, the renovations provide greater access for those with disabilities, and will create a safe and welcoming environment that will serve our community’s youth well into the future.

Additionally, the Red Cross has announced plans to designate Scout Hall a class 2 emergency shelter to serve evacuees in the event of fire or earthquake in Mill Valley.
